The broader impact of signature events throughout the year in eThekwini often goes beyond expected outcomes. The annual East Coast Radio House + Garden Show is one of those. The Show has long been one of eThekwini’s anchor events, and its true value extends well beyond décor inspiration and DIY delights.
THE NUMBERS TELL THE STORY
In 2024, BDO conducted a rapid event impact assessment on behalf of eThekwini Municipality.Their findings confirmed what Durbanites already know: this event delivers.
With over 63,000 visitors through the gates over 10 days, the Show generated a direct spend of R99.7 million, a GDP contribution of R263 million, and an employment impact equivalent to 476 annualised jobs. Government revenue also saw a projected boost of R20 million in tax contributions. These are not just numbers, but livelihoods supported, businesses grown, and momentum created right in the heart of Durban.
A CONTINENTAL COLLAB: GHANA AT THE SHOW
This year, the Show expands its economic influence across borders. For the first time, Ghana will be participating through a dedicated pavilion. This exciting initiative is led by the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) and curated by Francis Kojo Kwar, CEO of GEPA. It’s a showcase that celebrates Ghana’s rich blend of creativity, heritage, and entrepreneurial drive, and visitors will get to discover some real treats. Think unique handcrafted home décor, distinctive furniture design, sustainable lifestyle products, and artisan-made items; think hand-crafted chocolate and exquisite beading and accessories.
Ghana’s presence at the Show strengthens ties between the West and South of Africa, creating new channels for commerce, creativity, and shared growth. “Our participation is a testament to GEPA’s commitment to supporting Ghanaian SMEs, artisans, and designers in expanding their reach across Africa and beyond,” says Kwar. “Events like the East Coast Radio House + Garden Show are vital platforms for trade, collaboration, and cultural exchange. These are values that lie at the heart of our mission.”
“The East Coast Radio House + Garden Show has become more than just a beloved lifestyle event. It’s a proven economic engine,” says Show Director Cairey Baxter-Bruce. “This year, we’re proud to take that further by spotlighting not just local innovation, but continental collaboration. Ghana’s presence is the beginning of something bigger. It’s a win for Durban… and our neighbours”
As always, the Show remains a favourite for locals and tourists alike. Whether you’re a home improver, a trend-watcher, or a business leader, this is the place to be from 28 June to 6 July 2025. Come for the ideas. Stay for the impact.
