That’s what all the best-dressed walls are wearing this year! You’ll find them on the catwalk at The East Coast Radio House + Garden Show 2025, as the theme fresh spaces. bright living fills and spills into the Durban Exhibition Centre from June 28 to July 6.
Durban’s favourite Show is on the road!
And it’s all about lifestyle. How to dream, scheme and action your own version of fresh spaces. bright living, inside and out. There’s one sure-fire way to breathe new life into your home – to tone it down or talk it up – and that’s on your largest surfaces… your walls. It’s the perfect place to play. What about delectable Mocha Mousse… that’s the Pantone colour for 2025, and it leans towards the world’s love of earthy tones and grounded textures, balanced with eco-friendly, recycled, repurposed and sustainable life choices.
“Warm browns and rich emerald greens,” enthuses Interior Designer Nceba Shai of Link Interiors. “They bring such depth and elegance to a space.” For Nceba, connecting with nature – aka biophilic design – has really taken off in recent years: “It’s all about bringing in greenery, organic textures and natural light.”
She’s also head-over-heels for the bold use of stone as another growing trend: “We’re moving away from the default white marble and seeing a beautiful variety of materials like onyx and terrazzo, with playful colours and patterns. It makes design feel like a candy shop… so much to choose from!” Nceba talks up her love of South African design: “We’re a wonderfully vibrant nation with diverse cultures and a strong design voice – it’s expressive, bold, layered, intentional.” She’s loving the shift: “We’re embracing print, texture, and colour again!”
For Paige Waplington of Redesign Interior Design Studio, wall treatments and cladding transform the mood of a space. From quiet to quirky, chaotic to calm, plain to oh-so-pretty. Natural wood wall panelling – dark through to light woods, panels to slats – is still a firm trend favourite for 2025, but Paige leans towards the glorious range of wallpapers, customised prints and textural surfaces now available for wall treatments: “There are no laws about following trends. Go with what you love’,” she says. “Interiors are about creating a mood, telling a story, bringing your personality into the space. It’s the best part for us – connecting with a client, and helping them to translate their likes, loves and favourites into spaces which reflect them. It’s intensely personal.”
